“Northern Big One” – Subaru Car Show at Lightwater Valley

2 car shows in 2 weeks! Today, on Father’s Day, we went to the Northern Big One at Lightwater Valley – a car show for Subaru owners and enthusiasts. We went in convoy: Dad in the “blue car from the video”, me in Dickie, and Andy in the black car “from the video”. The show was a bit smaller than we had expected but there were plenty of good Scoobies to take photos of. We took Bilbo and Daisy the Shar Pei puppy so they had a nice day out. I would say it was better organised than the Modified Car Show, but I was disappointed by the lack of stalls: I need me something Subaru-branded!

Anyway I took loads and loads of photos. Here are a select few!

I think this might be it for car shows this year. Soon it will be time for a different kind of show – the Village Show! But fear not – there will be updates about Dickie and our car-related escapades too. I’m hoping to do an update about Dickie Mk II when I get round to it… and of course, come August, there will be the excitement of the second Ring trip!

Until next time.

End of an Era!! :( :((

Please allow me to take a break from (not) updating the Germany blog, and interrupt with this devastating bit of news!

A few years ago, Dad discovered a dude called Ken Block, who used to do drifting and such like in a Subaru Impreza sponsored by Monster Energy. A little while prior to a Ring trip, Dad got a load of stickers, and decided to do his blue car up like Ken Block. This resulted in our friend Andy declaring that Dad now had to “drive it like it was stolen”.

Now, after a few good years of it being one of the most recognizable cars on the track (very useful too for trawling through all the photos afterwards), Dad has started taking the stickers off! This truly is end of an era. Not only did best car not go to Germany at Easter, it’s now being stripped down.

This is Father in the process of the dark deed! Poor little car.

And here it is, naked! How rude! Somehow it looks less beastly, less…monstrous? I would say he’ll be able to sneak up on people, but it’s still so noisy that there’s no sneaking about anywhere!

Another Video! Nurburgring Chase-Me

Here’s another video Dad put up on Youtube that has the grand total of 3 views, so I thought I’d help him out…

Dad is in the black Hatch, and the camera is in the red Spec C. It was meant to be a pursuit style video, with Rob staying behind the whole time, however Russell in the Evo didn’t get the memo, and comes barging in right at the beginning.

Just a taster of the week to come!

Here’s a video that Dad uploaded a good while ago… comes complete with award-winning commentary! There is quite a bit of bad language, if you’re likely to take offence… Normally if I passenger with Dad, it’s like silent city.

The video quality isn’t the best but it sounds mint, unlike other videos with a camera outside where you just get road noise.

The bit I like the best is the fact that Dad still has the mount for the sat nav up on the windscreen!
